The Pacific-Union Club, San Francisco, is one of the oldest, most exclusive clubs in the world is in search of an Executive Chef with great influence and regarded team leader to direct its culinary operations. This distinguished full service club was founded in 1852, in the style of English clubs and continues to reflect its origins in its traditions and culture. As a purely private organization, the Club strongly values privacy in all matters and avoids unnecessary publicity of any kind. With said, an unquestionable professional decorum, maturity and refinement are core requirements in the Club’s Executive Chef.
The Pacific-Union Club exists to provide facilities and services conducive to social activities of the members and their guests. The Club provides dining services, a library, complete athletic facilities, and 27 guest rooms for overnight accommodations used exclusively by its members and their personal guests. The Club is renown over the world over for its attentive and gracious staff.
The Club provides impeccable facilities, services and social opportunities for the membership to interact and for the members to entertain their personal friends at social events. The prime objective of the management and staff is member satisfaction. The Executive Chef is one of 10 salaried managers and 60+ full-time employees.
The Club’s 1000 individual members truly regard their foodservice program for producing consistently sound, approachable American cuisine using only the finest fresh ingredients. Breakfast, lunch and dinner service is offered Monday – Friday along with hosting 75 to 100 Club events annually. The club additionally produces various sized private events ranging from cocktails receptions, vineyard dinners and periodic highly detailed galas for up to 400 guests. F&B sales near $2.2M+ annually operating with a budgeted deficit of <$1.5MM, supporting of club’s commitment to ultimate quality and a matching professional employer culture.
The Club will hire a career professional with a stable & logical employment path supported by exceptional culinary skills and willingness to produce traditional cuisine coupled with an enthusiasm for more contemporary cooking techniques, flavors and presentation styles. Quoting the Club’s regarded GM ideal core qualities, “Training and expertise in both classical and modern American cuisine is important for this sophisticated clientele. Experience in a hotel or corporate environment with a high level of management, administrative skills and multiple outlets oversight is ideal. A natural leader who interacts easily and cooperatively with others. A person who is naturally inclined to continue learning, exploring and creating. A person who is at ease with members, peers and staff alike.” Further, formal training will include a bachelor or related culinary degree and five or more years of quality brand and managerial level experience in operations of equal or greater quality and size. Current ACF certification as Certified Executive Chef or Certified Master Chef is preferred.
Additionally, the Chef will possess unquestionable integrity along with a genuine and respectful character capable of working effectively within the Club’s well-defined culture and its significantly tenured staff. Further, exceptional managerial maturity, leadership sense, and interpersonal skills are required as is a steadfast appreciation to outstanding guest service supported by a thoughtful and approach manner. The current chef, who is leaving to launch a private venture, led the position with great success for 5 years+; The Club is looking for a long-term match.
Compensation with be commensurate of qualifications including an exceptional benefits programing along with continuing educational packet, with overall value with the top 10% for area. Candidate screening will be completed no later than late December, with interviews, then tasting exercise immediately following. Final selection will be completed no later than mid-January.
